CENTRA WEB-CONFERENCING OPTION

Web-conferencing is here! Through the software CENTRA, you can...

  • watch the instructor write and draw on the screen
  • watch Greek Tutor drills
  • ask questions
  • try the drills yourself, from your machine, while being coached through them by the instructor

NOTE – The entire session is archived, and you can watch it later, as many times as you wish.

Also for those who choose this CENTRA option, as time permits, real-time private tutoring will be available, at the student's request.

To help cover the cost, students who wish to avail themselves of this wonderful opportunity will need to pay a one-time-per course fee of $75, for the 6 month duration of your course. Since all students are at a different place in the course, the $75 fee will be pro-rated, on the following schedule (as little as $13 per month):

  • > 5 mos. left in your course: $75
  • 3-4 mos. left in your course: $50
  • 1-2 mos. left in your course: $25

If you purchase any extensions, your CENTRA time will be extended at no cost.

There is no software to download, beyond a self-installing plug-in.

System requirements for CENTRA are quite basic:

  • Windows 98 and up, Pentium 2 or better, 256 MB, 200 MB free disk space
  • Internet connection: at least 56K dialup; broadband recommended
  • Internet Explorer 6.x or higher
  • 16 bit sound card, speakers, and mic.

A headset is probably best (around $25 at any office supply, computer store, or dept. store).

While this is not inexpensive, beyond the live office hours your CENTRA FEE also gets you:

  • Archives of each Virtual Office Hours session. View the session as many time as you like
  • View (as many times as you wish!) supplemental materials for the languages, such as:
    • animated Power Point presentations
    • "Walkthroughs," where strategies for such things as the following are modeled:
      • parsing
      • using charts in the textbook
      • working through translation sections
      • working through the Practice Exams
      • working through Greek Tutor
      • reading practice, where selected passages are read aloud in Greek, with comments on the syntax and grammar. Translation is also provided
