Technical - Computer Requirements
Overview | Syllabus | Suggested Study Plan | Language Lab
Students participating in this course must have access to:
  • Minimum Pentium-level PC (The course can be done on a Macintosh, but it is not recommended: the Hebrew Tutor® CD, a major part of the course, is PC only.)
  • Minimum 28.8 modem (recommended 56K)
  • E-mail
  • Local Internet (World Wide Web) provider.
  • Internet Explorer 5.x (Nestcape will not interact with fonts properly)
  • min. 16M RAM

NOTE: Hebrew Tutor® is an excellent program. It is, however, quite old by software standards (6 yrs+). Because of this, it works best when your monitor is set to 256 colors (see the Readme file). Therefore, while using Hebrew Tutor, you may want to change your color settings to avoid screen distortions.

To change this setting (in Windows),

  1. Go to START / SETTINGS / CONTROL PANEL (or choose MY COMPUTER, then CONTROL PANEL).
  2. Then choose the Display icon.
  3. Choose the tab across the top labeled Settings.
  4. From the Colors drop-down menu, choose 256 colors. Then choose OK.
  5. You may need to restart you computer for the changes to take effect.
  6. When you are done with Hebrew Tutor, repeat the above, choosing a higher color option for regular web browsing.

The above changes will affect the quality of your images in other programs. Most programs will still work, but the images may be fuzzy and poorly colored. We apologize for this inconvenience. But we consider it a small price to pay for the advantage of learning from such an excellent program as Hebrew Tutor.
